This is your time to shine! Treat yourself to a bit of pampering—you deserve it.
Booking professional hair and makeup services will ensure you look your best. When we look our best, we FEEL our best and that confidence radiates through your photos, too!
There are so many talented hair and makeup artists here in Michigan City and across Northwest Indiana. I would be happy to recommend experienced stylists to create camera-ready looks. I personally opt for soft waves or loose curls. Neutral color palettes for your makeup and a good contour often photograph beautifully!
Nail care is another essential detail. Opt for a neutral or nude color to ensure your hands look polished in close-up shots. Remove any chipped or grown-out polish at the very least to give your nails a fresh look. Have your partner trim and clean under their nails too—the details matter!
2. Choosing the Perfect Outfits
One of the standout features of a luxury maternity session with me is access to my curated client closet. Flowing gowns, elegant form-fitting rhinestone dresses, and different fabrics are available to create your dream look. While I do offer an extensive client closet that is always growing, feel free to bring personal options too—consider unbuttoned jeans for casual shots or a classic blazer for a sophisticated vibe. I do have a few blazers in the client closet as well!
Make sure to wear comfortable clothing to the studio, avoiding tight waistbands that could leave marks on your belly. Otherwise, I will help tailor your gowns and outfits to fit our vision!
3. Get Your Partner Camera-Ready
Your partner’s look matters just as much as yours do. Encourage them to wear a well-tailored dress shirt in a neutral or jewel tone. I usually recommend bringing white and black at the very least. Properly fitting dress shirts elevate the look and add a polished touch to your portraits. Consider a store like DXL or Men’s Warehouse in Northwest Indiana or the Chicago suburbs to assist with a proper fit.
Dark jeans, khakis, or black dress pants work well, and dress shoes are always preferable over sneakers for a cohesive, elegant look. If you have to opt for only one pair of pants, black dress pants are my gold standard!
4. Bring Meaningful Accessories
Add a personal touch to your session by incorporating sentimental items. Baby shoes, ultrasound images, and heirloom jewelry are perfect choices. I can beautifully incorporate these details into your photos, adding emotional depth to your portraits.
For this mama’s session we used her grandmother’s blazer in a few photos, her bridal robe layered with one of my client closet gowns, as well as her ultrasound photos in a creative way during her session!

To look and feel your best, ensure you’re well-rested and hydrated in the days leading up to your session. Avoid trying any new skincare products or treatments to prevent potential irritation or skin reactions. Especially in the winter months, chapped lips can be a challenge, so keep a hydrating lip balm on hand and bring it along on the day of your shoot!
