Autumn Beauty in Northwest Indiana
As the crisp autumn air begins to fade and the colorful fall leaves start to fall away, I want to take a moment to reflect on a few of the incredible family sessions I had the privilege of capturing this season here in Northwest Indiana. From the rich colors of the fall foliage to the cozy, candid family moments, this fall has been filled with beautiful memories that I am so excited to share!
I had the pleasure of working with some truly wonderful families this season, as well as capturing my own family. Each of these sessions was unique and full of love, and I’m beyond grateful to have been a part of their stories.
The Martenies Family: Candid Session in Chesterton, Indiana
I had the pleasure of working with the Martenies family. They were full of energy and ready to make some memories! We chose one of the many nearby trails in Chesterton, IN with tall wheat-grass and gorgeous fall colors as our backdrop. The session was filled with laughter and playful moments. Whether they were snuggling together for a family portrait or chasing each other around for some candid shots, this session was an absolute blast!
As a family photographer in Northwest Indiana, one of the best things about capturing family sessions is how each family brings their own personality to the shoot and makes the prompts I give into their very own memories. The Martenies family showed me just how fun and spontaneous family moments can be, and I’m so happy I had the honor of capturing them!
The Lantz Family: A Perfect Autumn Day on Their LaPorte County Farm!
When I met the Lantz family, we were greeted by the perfect fall day: golden sunlight, their family farm’s golden soybean crops, and the warmth of family. From the youngest members to the grandparents, every moment was filled with joy. We spent time walking through their property in LaPorte, IN, laughing, and capturing some truly beautiful moments that perfectly reflected the love and connection this family shares.
I’m lucky to have so many stunning locations to choose from, but nothing beats being invited to capture the memories in one’s own home. A home that the grandfather built himself, the family’s father being raised on this LaPorte County farm. I was honored to capture the kids enjoying the pond their dad helped dig by hand as a teenager. The Lantz family’s session was a perfect example of how the intimacy of our homes can create a beautiful backdrop for timeless family portraits.
A Reflection of Love and Gratitude for My Own Family
And of course, this fall season wouldn’t have been complete without capturing some beautiful moments with my own family. As a busy family photographer in Northwest Indiana, it’s so important to slow down and take the time to document my own family’s story. This fall, I made sure to set aside time to capture our legacy. With my tripod in tow, and giving my wife a crash course in using my camera so I could have moments of just my son and I, we were able to capture magical moments of us as a family and couple. My son had a blast running around Bluhm County Park, and we all embraced the changing season by snuggling up together with a well-loved book (Harry Potter, of course!) for some warm, loving portraits.
It was a special reminder for me of just how important family photos are for everyone’s journey—including my own. Portraits allow us to capture the short time our little ones are still little, moments of joy, connection, and growth that come with each season of life. I’m so grateful for my family and the memories we continue to create, and I can’t wait to cherish these photos for years to come.
The Porras Family: A Picture-Perfect Porter County Scene
Last, but certainly not least, I had the honor of working with the Porras family. Their session took place at what quickly became one of my favorite spots in Porter County, where the golden hues of fall blend beautifully with their warm smiles. From sweet moments of the kids snuggling to a fun family group shot among the tall wheat-grass around them, this session was all about creating memories that will last forever.
The Porras family was the perfect reminder that family photos are more than just a way to preserve the moments—you’re also preserving the feeling of connection, love, and togetherness that comes with each season of life. This is why I love being a family photographer in Michigan City, Indiana—I get to capture not just images, but the emotions that make those images so meaningful.
Fall May Be Ending, But these Memories Will Last Forever
